Case study of water supply in Fukuoka City

Fukuoka City is located at the third largest Japanese island Kyushu in southwestern Japan with roughly 1,5 million inhabitants. The city’s climate is almost tropical with an average annual temperature of ~18 degrees. The annual rainfall is with 400 m3 per person and year severly lower compared to the world average of roughly 17,000 m3 per person and year.

Th drinking water is supplied by expensive Uminonakamichi Nata Sea Water Desalination Center, water from eight dams and rivers. Additional water supply can be achieved by ongoing maintenance of water facilities and water conservation practise.
